July 22, 2021 - In response to the publication of the Boardman review, Daniel Bruce, Chief Executive of Transparency International UK, said:
“The Boardman review demonstrates vividly what many have known for some time: that a privileged few can secure disproportionate access and potential influence within government, and all away from public view. Multiple inquiries and reviews keep reaching similar conclusions; it’s surely time for the government to act to bring lobbying out of the shadows.
“Greensill met with up to nine departments in 2020 but most of these encounters have only come to light because of investigative journalism and now an inquiry. Information about who is trying to influence public policy should be publicly available as it is in other countries such as Canada, Ireland and the USA. A complete overhaul of the UK’s lobbying rules is urgently needed to restore public trust in our politics.”
