What we do 2

Transparency International’s Defence & Security Programme (TI-DSP) works closely with governments to help them build integrity and raise standards in their defence and security establishments. We are actively engaged with governments and armed forces around the world and encouraged that so many of them have expressed interest in strengthening their institutions against bribery and corruption.

Our programme works with the international defence industry in raising standards through better compliance programmes developing Integrity Pacts, and collaborating with other companies to improve anti-corruption mechanisms. Defence companies can play strongly constructive roles in addressing and reducing corruption through engagement with governments. By sending clear signals that the company does not engage in bribery or corruption, they can exert a positive influence over officials and national organisations. The industry has become far more willing to engage in counter-corruption reform, and our team has worked closely with companies to accelerate that process.

Since 2004, our team has been developing several formats of discussion and training for the different actors involved or with an interest in the defence sector. We facilitate roundtables engaging diverse stakeholders to discuss defence corruption reform, deliver practical anti-corruption training for armed forces and orientate civil society groups interested in tackling corruption in defence. We also build workshops for civil and military leaders to share views and discuss reform.
