Corruption and the Funding of UK Political Parties

This 2006 paper sets out TI(UK)’s position on the suspicions of ongoing corruption in political funding in the UK. In the context of widespread debate about the funding of political parties by expert bodies such as the Electoral Commission and formal enquires such as that led by Sir Hayden Phillips, TI(UK) does not claim expertise in the detail of funding systems.

Our interest instead lies with the means of reducing the exposure of the system to corrupt practice. Therefore, TI(UK)’s findings and recommendations are not intended to be detailed, definitive statements about a new system, but a vision of how principles could be applied to provide a more robust defence against corrupt practice.
