13 December, London – In response to the UK election results, Daniel Bruce, Chief Executive of Transparency International UK, said:

“As Britain stands at a crossroads over its future relationship with the rest of the world, we look forward to working with the new Government to ensure the UK retains its status as a beacon against financial crime. Key to achieving this is maintaining the progress already made on anti-corruption, as well as confronting the £100billion of dirty money that flows through the UK economy every year. The Registration of Overseas Entities Bill would be an important first step in addressing this problem by providing transparency over property ownership to prevent money laundering by criminals and the corrupt. The draft bill has cross party support, has already been scrutinised by MPs and peers, and would be an easy legislative win for this new Government.”
