Statement on London event discussing asset recovery in Nigeria

20th March 2017, London – Transparency International UK (TI-UK) is one of three organisations hosting an event in London on 21st March 2017, on the effectiveness of cooperation among law enforcement agencies over asset recovery in light of the commitments made at the London Anti-Corruption Summit in May 2016.  At this event, guests from the Nigerian law enforcement and regulatory community will discuss their work, followed by a panel discussion and audience Q&A.

In light of reports in Nigerian press, TI-UK would like to clarify the following points:

  •  The event is being hosted by Transparency International UK, Global Witness and The Corner House.
  •  The purpose of this event is to contribute to the discussion about the effectiveness of the UK-Nigerian asset recovery process, and more generally the UK’s asset recovery regime.
  • All invited guests speak on behalf of either themselves or the organisation they represent – their participation does not represent an endorsement by TI-UK.
  • This event does not constitute an official follow-up to the London Anti-Corruption Summit, hosted by the UK Government in May 2016.

TI-UK looks forward to hearing from the guest speakers and providing a platform for the audience and panellists to question and challenge them.
