Director, Defence & Security Programme

Are you passionate about seeing a world in which the daily lives of people are free of corruption?

Transparency International, the world’s leading anti-corruption organisation, is made up of over 100 national chapters worldwide, with a coordinating secretariat in Berlin. Transparency International UK (TI-UK) is one of the TI movement’s largest national chapters and is a registered charity. In addition to tackling corruption within the UK, TI-UK hosts global programmes on behalf of the wider TI movement – including a world-leading programme on tackling corruption in the field of defence and security.

Where there is corruption in the defence sector, democracy and human security suffer; terrorism, organised crime, and instability thrive; public resources are diverted or stolen on a grand scale; and armed forces may be ineffective. Through the Defence & Security programme, TI is working towards a world in which governments, the armed forces, and arms transfers are transparent, accountable, and free from corruption. Further information can be found at www.ti-defence.org.

TI-UK is now seeking a dynamic new Director for the Defence & Security Programme. This is an exciting opportunity to play a significant leadership role in a highly-respected and influential organisation with global reach. It offers the opportunity to make a substantial difference to the global defence and security sector and the lives of ordinary people, through your leadership, management and service.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Transparency International in the UK, and operating as part of TI-UK’s Senior Management Team, the Director of the Defence & Security Programme provides the overall strategic and operational leadership for the programme, which has been established to work in a complex sector. The Director is responsible for the implementation and on-going review of the Programme’s strategy and delivery of its objectives to achieve real change in the fight against corruption through transparent and accountable governments, defence institutions and defence companies. A key current focus for the team is the delivery and management of several large institutional grants which give the programme a secure financial base for the coming years and give an opportunity to develop and mould the team.

The ideal candidate will be motivated by the challenge and opportunity of making a positive difference by combating corruption on the world stage and will bring:

  • Strong strategy and management skills, taking ownership and responsibility for the delivery of goals and managing operations effectively and efficiently;
  • A proven track record as a manager of people, stakeholder relationships and complex programmes, policy positions and high-quality advocacy;
  • Experience or demonstrable ability in donor management, both in managing existing relationships and in raising funds for future projects and activities;
  • Experience in senior level policy-making – developing policy and arguing it into the agendas of governments and international organisations at the highest level.
  • A clear interest in the area of defence, security and corruption and the challenges facing these sectors.

This global role is based at TI-UK’s offices in central London, but also involves international travel.

As this is a global role in a global programme, we would be prepared to sponsor a work visa for the right candidate.

To apply or download further information on the required qualifications, skills and experience for the role at www.perrettlaver.com/candidates quoting reference 3696. The closing date for applications is 9am BST on Tuesday 28th August 2018.
