November 16 - Responding to cross-party support for a ban on MPs from working as paid consultants, Daniel Bruce, Chief Executive of Transparency International UK, said:

“We welcome this cross-party support for a ban on MPs acting as paid advisers for private interests. The primary focus of our elected representatives should be to represent their constituents in Westminster. Sadly, there will still be grey areas as long as this ban only applies to specific roles and activities. To remove uncertainty MPs should be required to seek prior approval from an independent body before continuing or taking on any new second jobs. To restore public trust, Government must also go further to deliver reforms around Ministerial conduct, lobbying and business appointments.”
