Internships with TI-UK

Transparency International UK (Intern – 3 months unpaid) – Role Profile

Transparency International UK’s intern programme offers suitable candidates placements of up to 3 months.  The precise nature of the work will be specified when the intern joins, but in general we seek to strike a balance between involvement in a specific research project, ad hoc projects, and general administrative support.

The internship is designed to benefit both the intern and TI-UK.  The intern may be expected to do some basic administrative tasks, but this will be balanced by more intellectually demanding projects.

Matt Boardman, 2nd year Cambridge history student and former intern at TI-UK: ‘As an intern with TI-UK for six weeks, I researched and wrote a report on police corruption around the world.  Although the TI-UK team is small, it is very influential and works with some very high-level figures: in my fourth week I had the interesting experience of a meeting with the Deputy Georgian Ambassador.’

Cormac Seachoy, Masters student (International Security and Global Governance) at Birkbeck College and former intern at TI-UK: ‘I spent three months with TI-UK in March 2011 and enjoyed contributing to a diverse set of projects. It was such a fascinating learning curve and was everything I had hoped for in terms of both the experiences I gained and as an introduction to the anti-corruption sector. Working within the TI-UK team provided an opportunity to develop my understanding of the work TI-UK does and its broader context on an international level.’

Applications are welcome from those with the required skills and experience. These will include:

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree, preferably a Master’s degree, in a relevant discipline (we will consider undergraduates in exceptional circumstances for the summer period, particularly those studying for relevant degrees, with a track record of academic excellence)
  • Familiarity with the transparency, accountability, and anti-corruption discourse
  • Fluency in English and ability to write succinctly
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office
  • Highly organised, self-motivated, and reliable

No prior work experience is necessary – this is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to the work of a dynamic and hands on anti-corruption organization, interacting with senior staff members.

The Internship is an unpaid position, although the costs of daily travel and lunch will be reimbursed.
