The annual Anti-Corruption Lecture was organised by Transparency International UK to mark the United Nations International Anti-Corruption Day. The lecture was delivered by The Rt Hon Clare Short Chair of the International Board of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) Former UK Secretary of State for International Development. Clare Short spoke on Transparency in Practice: Lessons from international development and EITI.

Clare Short entered the House of Commons in 1983 as the Member of Parliament for Birmingham Ladywood, the area where she was born and grew up. She held a number of shadow ministerial posts from 1993 and from 1996 until the General Election in 1997 she was Opposition spokesperson on Overseas Development. Following the General Election she was appointed Secretary of State for International Development, a post she held until May 2003 when she resigned from the Government over the Iraq war. In 2006 she resigned the Labour whip. Clare Short stood down from Parliament in 2010, and is now active in various organisations working in the UK and in the developing world. She is a member of the Advisory Committee of International Lawyers for Africa and chairs the International Advisory Board of the Cranfield Masters in Security Sector Management Programme. In March 2011 she was elected Chair of the International Board of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). Clare Short has received many awards during her career including in 2008, the Order of the Volta Companion by the President of the Republic of Ghana, in 2004, the Wilberforce Medal and in 2002, the Channel 4 Political Award.
